About
My name is Lauren Mather and I am so excited to have the chance to work with you and your students in 3rd grade this year! This will be my first year as a full time teacher, but I have had experience at Highland View as the building substitute during the second half of the 2016/17 school year. I was able to get to know many students and teachers during this time, as well as learn about the school’s values and high expectations for staff and students. I truly believe that it is important as a teacher to not only teach my students academics but social skills, such as empathy and kindness, community building, and teamwork.
Throughout the school year, we will work together to build a community of learners in our classroom. This community will have a focus on teamwork, communication, respect and a feeling of safeness. Our classroom must be a space where all students are free to try new things, make mistakes, learn from one another, and feel at home. My hope is that students are able to feel comfortable working with their peers and having open conversations if an issue were to arise. This sense of community will allow all students and myself to thrive this year as learners.
I will be sending weekly newsletters home with updates on our classroom and the learning that your students are doing. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at school! I look forward to working with you!
